WHAT IS GAS TRANSPORTATION?

Gas Transport Programs are offered to customers by their local utility companies and may be referred to as many things, such as:   Customer Choice Programs, Transport Gas Service, Gas Transportation Programs and so on.

In a nutshell, Transport Gas Programs are offered to commercial, industrial and sometimes residential customers by their local distribution companies.   The programs are designed to give customers greater flexibility, control and choice when it comes to their natural gas needs.

Through these programs, customers select a utility-approved third-party gas supplier (marketer) for the purchase and delivery of natural gas to the local utility; who then redelivers the gas using the exact same pipelines, infrastructure and metering system as before.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Participation requirements vary from state to state and from utility to utility.  We are happy to assist you in determining if your company meets the requirements to participate.

However, it is worth noting that just because a company may qualify for Gas Transport does not mean it is economically feasible to do so.   In many states and behind many utilities, customers do realize average to substantial savings from Gas Transport.

WHY WOULD MY LOCAL UTILITY ALLOW SOMEONE ELSE TO DELIVER AND SELL ME NATURAL GAS?

Gas Transport is a product that grew out of deregulation during the Reagan Administration in the mid 80’s.  Interstate pipeline companies were mandated to open their pipelines to anyone wishing to move natural gas in the United States.  This meant that pipelines would no longer have a monopoly over the natural gas industry.

Gas Transportation Programs resulted from the “trickling down” effect from pipelines to local distribution companies.  Just like the pipelines were asked to open their pipelines, utility companies were asked to open their city-gates; thereby allowing access to the consumers by other suppliers of natural gas

ARE THERE ANY INITIAL OR UP-FRONT COSTS TO TRANSPORTING?

Each local utility company varies among what is required for participation.  The single most prevalent component often required is the installation of telemetry.  Commonly referred to as EFM (electronic flow meter), a separate metering device may be required to monitor your usage once you enroll in Gas Transport.  These devices record and communicate your gas usage daily and/or monthly to both the local utility and your supplier.

HOW MUCH OF MY TIME WILL BE REQUIRED IF I CHOOSE TO TRANSPORT?

Initially there will be minimal paperwork that is required by the local utility and, if applicable, the installation of telemetry.  After that, the time you spend will cause no burden to you nor interfere with your ordinary business schedule.   You can rely on the expertise of your supplier!

SO HOW ARE YOU ABLE TO SAVE ME MONEY?

  • As a supplier of natural gas, Pro Energy Solutions is able to purchase competitively priced gas from producers with whom we have established long-term relationships.
  • We have substantially less overhead than public utility companies.
  • We constantly seek to find the most strategic purchasing options for our customers and further our commitment to reducing costs by implementing alternative ways of delivering that gas.
  • As a natural gas supplier competing for your business, we are committed to becoming the predominant supplier for a select group of customers in specific regions of the country.  We are not revenue-neutral and care about what you pay for natural gas

.
WHAT DO LOCAL UTILITY COMPANIES THINK ABOUT THESE PROGRAMS?

Most utilities remain indifferent about whether a customer elects to transport gas or continue receiving gas from the utility.   This is because all publicly regulated gas companies must remain revenue neutral on the gas rates they charge.

Local utility providers generate profit and revenue from the actual distribution of gas via the utility’s pipeline system; very much in the same way interstate pipeline companies make money.  Deregulation has improved and grown throughout the years and throughout the county.  Most utility companies now embrace deregulation, improved their programs, and have extended them to a greater audience of customers.

WHO WILL BILL ME?

Billing will vary by utility.   Typically, customers receive 2 bills each month:  one from the local utility for distribution and customer service charges and another from their supplier for the natural gas commodity itself.  The two bills combined comprise your total monthly gas charges.
